Washington Avenue’s Chess Club!

Ms. Evans will be overseeing the return of the Washington Avenue Chess Club! The purpose of the chess club is to enhance spatial/visual skills, problem solving, and higher levels of thinking through open-ended problems, discovery learning, and group interaction. Students will learn how to:

1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly, thinking through multiple potential moves & their consequences
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Attend to precision.
5. Look for and make use of structure.
6. PLAY CHESS!

If you wish to participate in our VIRTUAL chess club. The chess club will be held after school on Tuesdays for grades 2-3 and Thursdays for grades 4-5 from 3:30-5:00pm. This program is provided at no additional cost to the students. Students participating in the club will need to use their school-issued Chromebook or personal technology and have Internet access (RISD Wi-Fi provided at each school campus for those who need).
